He was born and raised in Herakleion, Crete, Greece. Studied Medicine in the School of Heath Sciences, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Crete and after that acquired his specialty as a resident in Internal Medicine in the University General Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece. There, he developed a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases, as well as antimicrobial stewardship and infection control. After completion of his residency, he collaborated with the HIV clinic of the University General Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece, actively participating in the management, treatment and hospitalization of people living with HIV. He works as an Internal Medicine consultant within the Internal Medicine Ward of the German Medical Institute. Among his chief principles are compassion, individualization of treatment and ensuring a scientific approach to health problems.
