Social Workers

A social worker at the German Medical Institute

The GMI gives great emphasis on a personalised approach to the individual. For this reason, a social worker was incorporated in the centre. It is worth mentioning that the GMI is the only hospital in Cyprus to employ a full- time social worker.

The social worker has a multiple role to play with the aim to provide supportive and advisory services to the patients, their families and their social environment. These services scope to improve their quality of life that will in turn have a positive effect on their health.

Services provided

Meeting with the patient, relative, carer.

Investigation and evaluation of each request and needs that are important to be met.

Connection with various entities and services that will enable the fulfilment of the patient’s needs.

Support in the completion of applications for the facilitation of various procedures.

Co-operation with non-governmental organizations as well as local authorities.

Connection with volunteers operating in different regions of Cyprus and provision of services for speedy confrontation of different issues.

Provision of services at home in co-operation with social welfare services.

Provision of transportation of patients to and from the GMI. This is effectuated after careful evaluation of the patient’s social and financial background.

Regular communication with patients after they are back home for better coping of any problems that may arise.
