Michalis Ayiomamitis
Dr Michalis Ayiomamitis, MBBS, MD, CTh, is a specialist Cardiac Surgeon, Director of the Cardiac Surgery at GMI. After spending over 2 decades in Italy and England, studying, training and working in Cardiac Surgery, he decided to join our team and return to his homeland to offer his services and expertise in this complex speciality.
After graduating with distinctions from Lanitio Lykeio A in Limassol and completing his military service as officer, Dr Ayiomamitis moved to Italy to study Medicine. Based on his academic ranking and performance, he was awarded with a six-year scholarship from the Italian government for his studies in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Perugia.
He started his internship in Cardiac Surgery in 2005 and completed his training in 2014 at San Matteo University Hospital in Pavia, one of the largest hospitals in Italy. During his training he achieved the position of Chief Resident and he successfully obtained 2 subspecialties, one in mini-invasive aortic valve surgery and one in heart transplant. Subsequently, he moved to London at St. Georges University Hospital for a fellowship in Adult Cardiac Surgery. Afterwards, Dr Ayiomamitis was appointed as Senior Specialty doctor in Cardiac Surgery at Hull and East Yorkshire University Hospital where he was also covering the role of Lead of Trust appointed doctors to the SCTS.
Dr Ayiomamitis has an extensive surgical experience, especially focused on the latest techniques.
