General Surgery
About

The German Medical Institute offers advanced services in elective and emergency surgery. Our center is staffed with professionals from multiple disciplines in surgery, medical and radiation oncology, gastroenterology, diagnostic radiology, pathology, nursing, social work, information technology and administration. Our team is experienced in all subspecialties of General Surgery with training from multiple world-renowned hospitals. The German Medical Institute is outfitted with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Our goal is to minimize the need for conventional surgery through:

Minimal access surgery (also known as minimally invasive surgery or MIS). This is done by surgeons operating through small incisions using cameras and instruments internally. The result is minimal blood loss and post-operative pain and ultimately a rapid recovery and return to daily activities.

Most of these operations can be performed as day-surgery, without patients needing to stay overnight in the hospital.

We also provide services for malignant conditions. We treat cancer with a multi-disciplinary approach, where every case is discussed in our weekly tumor boards. We offer the highest quality, customized treatment options to all our patients. We also offer patients access to clinical trials and advanced research, whenever appropriate.

Additionally, we offer surgery for benign conditions. This includes pathology of the thyroid/parathyroid glands, breast, gastrointestinal tract (gall bladder, diverticulosis, appendix, acid reflux surgery), and anus (hemorrhoids, fissures, perianal abscess, fistulas and condylomas).

We perform consultations and small procedures in our outpatient’s department. These include regular breast, proctology, and general surgical clinics.

The Team

The surgical department is operated by experienced surgeons and nurses who have trained at top medical institutions all over the world.

Treatment is customized to each patient individually and is discussed thoroughly beforehand. Every step is explained along with the indications, benefits, and possible complications of each procedure.

Pre-operative assessment and follow-up is essential for our patients.

Equipment

The German Medical Institute is outfitted with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, offering top quality services in elective and emergency surgery.

Minimal Access Surgery is preferred as the best treatment option for most cases, always using the most up-to-date technology available. Laparoscopy or key-hole surgery (and soon robotic surgery) are commonly used techniques for Minimal Access surgery.

The newest laparoscopy towers with 3D and 4K optics, along with the latest electrosurgical and energy devices, are used. Fluoroscopic surgery using ICG makes sentinel lymph node biopsies possible, eliminating the need for extensive surgical resections and minimizing complications.

Our new hybrid operating theatre is equipped with advanced imaging technology which enables minimally invasive surgery with the simultaneous use of diagnostic aids.
