General Internal Medicine
About

The General Internal Medicine physicians specialists – internists – at the German Medical Institute (GMI) combine scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to diagnose, treat, and care for patients across a wide spectrum of symptoms and diseases.

The General Internal Medicine specialists – internists – at the GMI can help with a wide range of conditions affecting the internal organs of the body: the heart, the lungs, the liver, the gastro-intestinal tract, the kidneys and the urinary tract. Although some diseases specifically affect individual organs, most common diseases like arteriosclerosis, diabetes and high blood pressure may affect many of our internal organs. Our internists are therefore trained to recognize and manage a broad range of diseases, including caring for patients with chronic and multiple disorders.

The Department

Offering the best possible care to our patients is our priority. That is why we have designed our wards as an environment which will make them feel safe and comfortable. The environment has a critical role to play in the treatment of a patient with complicated diseases like cancer or cardiac problems, especially since these patients often feel worried and stressed.

That is why we have "copied" traditional Cypriot homelike sitting rooms where our patients and their friends and relatives can enjoy each other's company with some refreshments.

Directly adjacent to our wards, patients can "escape" to what has been called the 'most popular Roof Garden in town', which overlooks the whole of Limassol and its

wonderful coastline.

The department additionally has a treatment room that has been designed to meet the specific needs of neutropenic patients.

Equipment

The Outpatient Clinics are fully equipped for the proper clinical examination of patients and are located on the ground floor of the Hospital, along with a comfortable waiting area. The Wards are the 2nd floor and have 27.

Each room has all the necessary medical equipment to monitor the patient's progress. High-tech monitoring devices enhance the nursing procedures. The alertness and right choice of consumables also help in the proper care of seriously ill patients.

Services

The department of internal medicine at the German Medical Institute (GMI) offers two kinds of patient care: in-patient care and out-patient care. We do not focus on treating a single disease, but rather we treat a patient considering all their symptoms and evaluating them for potential parallel health problems, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and dyslipidemia.

A highly specialized team of dedicated and trained internal medicine physicians focuses on treating our patients in our out-patient clinics. Please see the corresponding departmental sites for more information: Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Medical Oncology, or Endocrinology.

Our general internal medicine physicians treat to the

GMI in-patients, approaching each patient in a holistic way by considering their individual needs, in close collaboration with our organ specialists.
